Reducing Caffeine Intake for Coffee Lovers…

I love coffee, especially early in the morning. I love the smell of freshly ground beans and the aroma of brewing coffee. I like my coffee Americano style with half and half and two packets of equal or splenda. This morning ritual has been going on for more than a decade, until I did a restrictive detox cleanse. After a few days, I was irritable with a pounding headache. I stopped immediately and went right back to my coffee regimen. More recently, my doctor said that I should reduce my caffeine intake. So, I looked to cut out any soda, chocolate, ice cream and iced tea first, but the bulk of my caffeine intake was from coffee. On a normal day I drink three or four 12 oz. mugs of coffee when I’m home. It was in 2021 during the pandemic, and I started buying high quality decaf beans but the flavor loss was just too much. So to get rid of these beans, I started adding my espresso roast beans with the decaf beans. I eventually settled on a decaf bean that paired nicely with my Arabica espresso roasted beans. Settling on a 50/50 blend for my everyday coffee, I was able to reduce my caffeine intake without sacrificing taste or flavor. Win-win! I travel for work regularly and while I can get a half reg/half decaf at starbucks or any local coffee house, it’s not as good as my blend and wow, its expensive!

Some of the benefits include improved sleep, reduced anxiety, better hydration, healthier digestion and more. There are lots of articles online.

(It's worth noting that the effects of reducing caffeine intake can vary from person to person, and some individuals may experience withdrawal symptoms such as headaches, irritability, and fatigue when cutting back on caffeine. It's important to reduce caffeine intake gradually and listen to your body's response. If you have any concerns about reducing caffeine intake, it's best to consult with a healthcare professional for personalized advice.)
